We offer Kodokan Judo at Harai Dojo. Judo or "The Gentle Way" is a Japanese Martial Art that was created in 1882 by Dr. Jigoro Kano from various forms of Japanese Jiu Jitsu. Judo became an Olympic Sport in 1964. Judo is a combination of Throws from the standing position (Tachiwaza) and pins, chokes & armbars from the ground position (Newaza). Please join us for a class or two before enrolling.
We offer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu @ Harai Dojo. BJJ or "The Gentle Art" began as Judo that Dr. Jigoro Kano sent a contingency to Brazil to spread Judo to the rest of the world. Mitsuo Maeda "Count Koma" was a well rounded Judo Black Belt who also learned Traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu went on to teach many students to include Carlos Gracie and his sons Carlson Gracie and Helio Gracie. BJJ started off as a way of self defense in Brazil. It has since become a competitive sport. Please Join us for a class or two before enrolling with us.
At Harai Dojo we teach both Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and we blend both arts into a "Hybrid" style get the most out of your journey into both Martial Arts. We have a great group of instructors that train in both arts.
We separate each class into 1 hour segments for you purists. Both Sensei Jim and Professor Aaron bring many years to the Dojo for your learning experience.
Harai Dojo is proud to announce that we are currently one of two gyms in Washington State that is a Mission 22 Certified Gym. We provide Judo and BJJ as a service to our nations veterans who are suffering from PTSD. Please recommend us to a friend in need of our services.
